Third Grade's Crayon Crackle Paintings

Third graders created a crayon crackle painting using the first letter of their first name. They drew the letter in the style of their choice, then decorated the letters and backgrounds with bright colors and designs using crayons. Afterward we balled the papers up over and over again like we were going to throw them away so that we'd create crackled areas. In the last step, we painted the entire paper with black paint, carefully rinsed the black paint off the waxy crayon and where we made crackles, the black paint stayed. A lot of steps, but A LOT of fun!
